Guidance on Marriage from the Quran and Sunnah
📜 Marriage in the Light of the Quran
Allah Almighty has described marriage as a great blessing and a source of peace in the Quran. In Surah Ar-Rum (30:21), it is stated:
﴿And among His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquility in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy.﴾
This verse highlights the sanctity of marriage, emphasizing it as a bond of love and mercy.
🌸 Guidance on Marriage from the Sunnah
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) regarded marriage as an essential part of the religion and a Sunnah. He said:
"When a person marries, they have completed half of their faith; let them fear Allah regarding the remaining half." (Shu‘ab al-Iman)
Marriage is a responsibility and an act of worship that promotes chastity and social harmony.
💍 Some Key Principles of Marriage from the Sunnah:
Adopt Simplicity: The Prophet (peace be upon him) encouraged simplicity in marriage, saying: "The best marriage is the one that is simple." (Sunan Ibn Majah)
Consent is Essential: The mutual consent of both parties is mandatory for marriage.
Payment of Mahr: Mahr is the right of the bride and should be agreed upon at the time of marriage.
Foundation of Good Character: Preference should be given to a spouse with good character and religious commitment. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "A woman is married for four reasons: her wealth, her lineage, her beauty, and her religion. Choose the one with religion." (Sahih Bukhari)
💞 Purpose of Marriage:
Marriage is not just a contract but a divine blessing that lays the foundation of a family. This relationship is built on love, loyalty, and mutual respect. May Allah grant us all a happy married life in accordance with our faith and Sunnah. Ameen!
